About Lacrosse in the South East Region

To support growth the structure of the women’s game in the UK changed in 2012. The country was divided into 3 regions for women’s lacrosse and our region the South-East, encompasses at least 50 Schools, 18 universities and 23 clubs, covering Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire right down to the coasts of Kent and Sussex.

Schools, university and mixed league games tend to be played matches on Saturdays whilst clubs in the South East league play on Sundays normally.

Clubs can vary in the types of players which they look after, so some clubs will range from having feeder training sessions for youngsters right through to having England (elite) players in their senior squads, whilst other clubs will focus on one element be it seniors or juniors and they may also take a social playing stance over a competitive one.

    Field Lacrosse

    This is played with 10 players aside on an outdoor pitch (field) according to the World Lacrosse rules. SEWLA organises a league system for local clubs and regional level competitions for senior womens’ players and junior players. SEWLA also supports school events in the region.

    Sixes

    This format of Lacrosse is played with 6 players aside. It is characterised by the 30 seconds shot clock, quick transition and high-scoring action. Sixes is the format that will be played at the LA Olympics 2028.

    Box Lacrosse

    Like Sixes, Box Lacrosse is also played with 6 players aside but in an indoor arena. The game is full contact and players are kitted up in protective equipment including helmets, gloves, shoulder pads, arm pads and rib pads. There is also a 30s shot clock making it a fast paced game where speed and agility is key.

  • Pop Lacrosse

    Pop Lacrosse is primarily aimed at primary schools. Pop lacrosse sticks are made with light weight plastic and easy to handle. The game is mixed sex, 5 aside and without a goalkeeper, the ball is made with a soft material, making it a very accessible entry path to Lacrosse.
