About Lacrosse
If you're new to lacrosse or have a child wanting to play lacrosse then this page will give you some guidance on what's available out there!
Lacrosse is one of only a handful of growing sports in the UK at the moment. This is a really exciting time for the world of lacrosse with focus on the sport growing.
Lacrosse is split into a few different worlds across the UK, these being Men's, Women's, Mixed and Juniors. Juniors include Pop lacrosse which is a slight variation on the game using different sticks and balls generally to make the game easier to learn before moving on to the usual equipment. So you may see this at some schools and tournaments.
To support growth the structure of the women’s game in the UK changed in 2012. The country was divided into 3 regions for women’s lacrosse and our region the South-East, encompasses at least 50 Schools, 18 universities and 23 clubs, covering Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire right down to the coasts of Kent and Sussex.
Schools and Uni's tend to play matches on Saturdays whilst clubs in the South East tend to play on Sundays.
Clubs can vary in the types of players which they look after, so some clubs will range from having feeder training sessions for youngsters right through to having England (elite) players in their senior squads, whilst other clubs will focus on one element be it seniors or juniors and they may also take a social playing stance over a competitive one.
It's good to consider what type of play you're looking for when looking to join a club. Clubs welcome new players with open arms and it's just a matter of going on their website and getting in contact.
If you're brand new to lacrosse then England Lacrosse and clubs also run development days throughout the season to introduce you to our sport. We, the South East, run an annual development tournament in November/December where players who have been playing less than a year can get some experience away from the more competitive matches.
Please do get in contact with us if you want any assistance in finding a team or a development day as we're happy to advise and get you in touch with the right people.
