Senior Regionals 2024: The Roundup

Over two days and two locations we saw the South East, South West and North regional teams joined by the England U20s to battle it out for the trophy. Here’s how it went…

Saturday: Habs Girls

South East A vs South West A

Saturday started with South East A vs South West on Pitch 1. The game started off relatively even, with SE taking the lead in the first quarter 3-1 after 3 goals in the first seven minutes against one from South West. The teams were almost even in the second quarter, with three goals from SE and two for SW ending with a score of 6-3 at half time.

The SE side did manage to pull away in the second half, with three more goals to counter another from SW ending the third quarter 9-4. The East side carried this momentum and scored another 5 goals in the final quarter against one from the West for a final score of 14-5 to the South East.

North B vs England U20B

On Pitch 2, the North B squad faced the England 20B. The England side wasted no time, scoring in the first minute of the game. They carried that energy through to score 4 goals in the first quarter and 8 in the second, whilst the North sheet remained clean giving the national team a 12-0 lead in the first half.

The third quarter saw another 4 goals from the England side but the North clawed back two of their own. This turnaround resulted in a high energy final quarter for the game; England scored 3 goals within the first five minutes, only for North to score another. England then went on to score another 5 goals after that to end with a score of 24-3 to the national side.

South East B vs South West B

On Pitch 3, South East B played in a closely fought match against South West B. It started by both sides scoring a goal each during minute 3, and continued on that track. The first quarter saw the West side take the lead 4-3 despite some strong attacking play in the final minutes. In the second quarter the East managed to even it out, ending 7-7 at half time.

The theme continued in the third quarter, where 4 goals from each side saw the score shift to 11-11. Both sides pushed on for the final quarter and ended the game in a 13-13 draw.

 North A vs England U20A

In the afternoon, North A took on the England U20A. The North team came in quick, scoring 2 goals within the first three minutes of the game. The England side pushed back, and the first quarter finished 4-2. A similar goal distribution followed in the second quarter, making the score 8-4 at half time.

England made a comeback after halftime and both  sides scored 3 goals each in the third quarter, but the North scored another 2 in the final quarter and cemented the score as 13-7.

North B vs South West B

The first quarter was close, with the South West leading 4-3, but the North tipped it back in their favour in the second quarter scoring 5 goals against SW’s 2. 

With a half-time score of 8-6, the North carried the momentum into the third quarter and scored another 3 goals for South West’s 2, finishing the game with a 16-9 win for the North.

South East B vs England U20B

 The England side started out strong in this game, leading the charge with a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Though the South East did get a goal in, the halftime score was 14-1.

The South East regrouped at half time and scored again in the third quarter whilst England managed 3 goals, making it 17-2. However, the England side pulled it out of the bag for the final quarter and won the game with a final score of 24-2.

South East A vs North A

In the final round of Saturday games, the South East A played North A. The first quarter was close; the North scored 2 goals in the first two minutes while the South East scored 2 in the last five minutes, drawing 2-2 at quarter time. It remained close with the South East scoring 3 more in the second quarter while the North scored 4, giving a halftime score of 5-6 to the North.

The South East came back fighting, scoring 2 goals in the third quarter and 1 in the fourth, conceding none to win the game 8-6.

South West A vs England U20A

The England squad had a strong first quarter, leading 2-0 at the end of it. South West made a comeback in the second quarter, but England still managed to get 3 goals in resulting in a halftime score of 5-2 to them.

No goals were conceded by either team in the third quarter and each scored 1 goal in the fourth, giving a final score of 3-6 to England.


Sunday: Springwest Academy

North A vs South West A

The sunshine on Sunday gave rise to a promising start to this fixture; despite the North scoring a quick goal 41 seconds into the game, the South West fought back and the first quarter ended 3-1 to the North. Each team then scored a goal each in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, the North scored 6 more goals and then followed it with 4 more in the final quarter, managing not to concede any in the second half. This gave them a win with a final score of 14-2.

South East B vs North B

The South East team were off to a strong start this morning, leading 3-0 by quarter time. The second half saw an impressive turnaround by the North team, evening it so that the halftime score was a 5-5 draw.

The teams continued to prove themselves an even match, drawing 8-8 at the end of the third quarter. With 10 minutes left of the game, the teams were tied 9-9. The North managed to score goals in the 51st and 58th minutes respectively and despite one from the South East in the 59th minute, they narrowly avoided evening the score for the final time. The full time score was 11-10 to the North.

South East A vs England U20A

The South East team wasted no time, scoring 4 goals in the first 10 minutes of the initial quarter. England soon caught up and scored 2 for themselves before the end. The South East went on to score another 4 in the second quarter and conceded none, giving a halftime score of 8-2.

Undeterred, England scored 2 goals in the third quarter without conceding any, earning a score of 8-4 by the end of the third quarter. Both teams then scored 3 goals in the final quarter, ending with a score of 11-7 to the South East.

South West B vs England U20B

England came out strong for their final game of the tournament, scoring 5 goals in the first quarter against South West’s 1. Not to be defeated, the SW scored two more in the next quarter whilst England managed 5 more for a halftime score of 10-3.

South West scored again in the third quarter whilst England kept up the pressure throughout the second half, winning with a final score of 20-4.
